2/12/12 We Board the National Geographic Islander and Begin Our Cruise!

We arrive in Baltra
We flew on Aerogal to Baltra in the Galapagos. This area used to be a US military base and is now primarily an Ecuadorian naval base.

The Instituto Nacional Galapagos issues a Transit Control Card for Galopagos to everyone who enters the Galapagos Islands.

Welcome to the Galapagos Island Archipelago!

We took a short bus ride to the dock (with sea lions lazing around on it) where we met the zodiacs to take us to board the National Geographic Islander. We were given a cruise orientation and were able to settle in to our cabin.

Diane makes her way in the zodiac to the ship.

In the afternoon, we took pangas zodiacs)  to North Seymour Island. We took a loop trail that was about 1.2 miles long and saw a lot of wildlife. We saw: Marine Iguana, Sally Lightfoot Crab, Galapagos Sea Lion, Brown Pelican, Blue-fotted Booby, Flightless Cormorant, Magnificent Frigatebird, Great Frigatebird, Cattle Egret, American Red-Billed Oysetercatcher, Wandering Tattlet, Swallow-tailed Gull, and the Galapagos Dove.
